With all the terrible weather this past few months it has taken a terrible toll on my piking maybe im just getting old and not as sharp as I once was, just yesterday l watched one of my favorite piking spots water rise easily 2 Feet and coming a around a meter or so inland due to feeder streams l guess tring to get rid of the overrun of snow we had recently so l packed up early and give it time to recover before l try again. 

Nothing else for it only building snow men .. ahem 

 - but on the upside river seasons just around the corner, im really looking forward to stalking the rivers in search for wild trout who knows what might turn up. 

Running over the next few months we have started an Trout Area League to cover these few months of the year when the fishing in general is not so good else were. hard competition and some of the most outstanding predator anglers from Ireland and across Europe... and a hell of a lot of big fish caught. 1st position Day 1 For Team Snapbaits with all fish caught before 3pm - 4 pike , 3 perch ,1 trout and a huge confidence boost for our team. day 2 dropping to 3rd position with the weather turning sour and lack of any bigger fish and lack of experience on lough Derg hung us up a little, Day 3 Saturday we returned and gained points putting us over a few cm from the previous days teams 1st place score on Friday ........ waiting for results with thoughts going through your mind, what would the score be with all teams keeping silence on the last days catch , 7pm Sunday and Herman Molenaar went through the scores from the bottom up... it felt like it was forever to get to our position, sadly for us the other teams had made ground on their points with some hitting into good fish an hour before the battle was to end securing Rafal pec and Igor Kłosowski 1st Place and top prize a brand new Aluminumcraft escape 165 and mega trailer , Tomek Kurman and Jacek Rafał Gorny last years winners and International predator anglers a 2nd securing a week long trip to Canada , Big fish expert Joe McDermott International predator angler a 3rd place, and Paul Broke Full time Lough Derg angling guide a Respectable 4th positions, with Team Snapbaits Andrew Powell and Steven Powell taking a hard earned 5th position and securing a 7 day holiday to Sweden fishing for baltic pike ...aside from that we will be back for more next year Suberb event and the run the way all events should be. ... huge thanks to Vasswaders and rainwear and Baltic.se lifejackets for supporting the event with their top products and all the other sponsors who came together to make this event Irelands number 1 predator fishing tournament......😎Vikings the lot of them............ thanks to Snapbaits Team member Colin Rutherford for looking after things when we were away and providing super support. Baltic Lifejackets and Vass Waders & Rainwear superb sponsorship to support the event and Herman Molenaar at Predator Battle Ireland Killaloe lough berg Ireland. give him a shout for some some excellent guided predator fishing,

65 competitors boats and 130 big fish predator anglers return from the 2017 lough Ree pike international some happy some sad and some confused, a great event with 10,000 euro in prize money. The use of the measuring system was a success which was angler and also pike friendly so well done to the organizers for taking the time to perfect the rules to suit all types of angler and maintain a safe and fair competition.

myself and andrew in the Team Snapbaits boat took 5th prize 100 euro for big fish
and 7th place overall for 500 euro , we had a great time and love lough Ree the angling is superb.

we made a mistake with not putting the boat number card on one of the larger fish which was 79cm therefore did not count, reducing our ranking by 2 places so we live and learn.
all fish that Team snapbaits caught were lure caught - no deadbaits were used throughout the competition , so a lot of hard earned fish were taken by casting throughout the competition for 17hrs solid.
Our biggest fish was 89cm and it put up a decent scrap, and all fish returned unharmed , we lost a better fish maybe just touching the 100cm but thats just fishing , you win some and loose some. We also had some trailer issues and it was a long long 3hr trip home after getting the issue resolved. 

The event was a success with 65 boats , conditions on day one were perfect with fish easily caught , day 2 got harder as the hours ticked away with many anglers not taking a single fish and others getting only one or two in the 8hr competition time frame which turned out to be a super hard and long day 

Well done to lough Ree Angling hub , and the camlin district anglers , and well done to all who took part the determination was unreal.
